At the Lake 5.0

When my mom was in high school, Grant Kathy and Uncle John took her to a shallow creek down by the lake with water as clear as glass and as cold as Antartica. My mother wanted to know how I would react in clear water, so she asked them to take all of us back to this creek. After a few wrong turns, Uncle John found the creek again. We had packed a picnic lunch, so we sat down and munched away.... Wait, THEY munched away; I sat there and watched.

After the food was packed into stomachs it was time to venture into the water... I wasn't too sure about it at first... Why could I see the bottom? In our cove where I'd been swimming so far, you couldn't even see your hand under the water. Now I could see every detail!

Warning, it's deeper than it looks! Dad tried to set me down and the water approached my non-exsistant neck! Plus it was pretty cold, so he picked me up pretty quick.

Not to mention, the creek was plum full of creatures! Minnows, endangered Snail Darters and Crawdads (large and mini - see above!) abound! Dad tried to catch that big one, but it was too quick for him. I don't know if he knew they moved backwards, so when he reached down the first time, he jumped pretty quick when it shot between his legs! Uncle John managed to catch this tiny one! Look how small!

Animals weren't the only thing we found in this creek... Gramps was pleasantly smug after finding this arrowhead! The Osage Indians used to live all over the lake area, and Gramps is always on the search for arrowheads. He's found quite a few, but mostly in Arizona or Southern Missouri. He was beaming for the rest of the day after finding this one. All of us wanted to out-do him and find a bigger one, but this was the only find of the day.

I even got in the search....I dug my toes into those rocks trying to feel for a sharp one!

Whoops, my cover is blown. Grant Kathy had to help me search....

I call them old folks a lot...but I guess technically they aren't that old. Nearing the big 3-0 in a couple of years! To me that DOES seem old! Come on, I'm only five months!
