Before I was born, this used to be the TV room, and it was decorated in all my Grandpa Jim's John Deere stuff! Before that, a LONG time ago before Mom and Dad bought this house from Grandma and Grandpa, this used to be Uncle Eric's bedroom. There is one window, and outside the window is a ledge (typical 1970's architecture). I bet Uncle Eric snuck out this window several times, and he'll have to give me all the scoop so I will know the best techique for when I get older!
But now this is my bedroom. Dad put in a new window for me (cause Uncle Eric's leaked whenever it rained), we got new carpet, a new door (but ask my Grandpa Jim why there is already a hole in it!), new woodwork and a new closet opening! My dad is great! He's really handy, a great person to have around in case I ever act like Grandpa and put a hole in something... My mom is the crafty one, she painted the room a soft green color. Oh! And my Grandma Paulette made the window and closet curtains for me! All the colors came straight from my bedding set, which is Noah's Ark in soft pastel colors! Isn't it pretty?
It came with this mini quilt, which my mom hung up on the wall. Maybe when I get older I will be able to wrap up in it. The bed set came with a diaper hanger thing, a sheet, a valance, a bumper pad for the crib and a dust ruffle. The next picture shows some of those things. I also have the matching floor rug in front of my changing table.
My room has a lot of items that have meaning behind them. For example, my crib is not new, but it's very precious to me. It originally belonged to my Cuzaunt Katee and Cuzuncle Ethan! And you can see a stack of beautiful blankets I have received, many of them handmade with love for me! Also inside my crib is my newest stuffed animal from Vermont Teddy Bear Company. It has a bib around it's next that is embroided...but the special part is what's on the bib... I'm not telling here what it says, but it's something that will always make me laugh and love my Grandpa Mark! Under my bed are baskets filled with all my rattles and toys! I'm still a little too young for most of them, but sometimes Mom gets them out and tries to play with me.
Remember how I said my dad is a great handyman? Well, he built my changing table/dresser and my night stand!!!! I love them so much!! They are the same color wood as the crib, and they don't look "baby-ish" so I will be able to use these later in life, too! My dresser has lots of drawers, so I can stash lots of goodies in them!
Hanging just above my changing table is a plaque that one of my mommy's friends had made for me! I wanted to post a picture of this special gift because literally everytime I am layed down to be changed, I stare at this plaque and I smile away! I love that Lion King. No, not THAT Lion King, but a King Lion! He matches my room so perfect and I love staring at him! I smile everytime. Both Mom and Dad are fascinated by my love for this plaque!
Here is the top of my night stand my dad made for me. Eventually it will go next to a bed when I outgrow the crib. But for right now, it houses all my books inside and the top has all my precious gifts! These gifts all mean to much to me and I will always think of you when I see your gift to me! Mom said after I start walking, she might have to put some of these things higher so I don't break them though.
Like most baby rooms, I have a rocking chair in my room. The wood is the same as the crib and my night stand. But what makes this rocking chair special is that it belonged to my late Great Grandma Edith. She passed away in 1997, but she used to babysit my mom when Grandma went to work. I guess this chair sat right by the big window in their house and she was always sitting it in looking out the window. She would hold my mom and rock her to sleep while singing children's bible songs. Also, since the arms are pretty wide, together, they would roll out play doh into "snakes" and see who could make the longer snake. My mom promised that her and I could do that one day too. My Grandma Paulette made the purple cushions for the chair special for my room. I've been lucky enough to be rocked to sleep in this chair already by both my grandma's.
As you can see in the picture below, my closet is VERY full of clothes!! What's special about this is because that is only because of your generosity! My parents have bought very little clothes! Most of this all came from all of you! Thank you so much!!!
